Definition of Terms
Semaglutides
Semaglutides are a class of medications that belong to a group called GLP-1 receptor agonists. They mimic the effects of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels, appetite, and digestion. Semaglutides are primarily used to manage type 2 diabetes and obesity by promoting insulin release, reducing appetite, and slowing digestion, which can lead to significant weight loss in many patients.
Popular semaglutides include Ozempic®, Wegovy®, and Rybelsus®, which are approved for treating type 2 diabetes and, in some cases, for chronic weight management. These medications have become popular in weight loss treatment due to their ability to help patients lose and maintain weight effectively as part of a comprehensive health plan.
