Transform Your Body with Liposuction

Liposuction is a popular cosmetic procedure that effectively removes fat from targeted areas of the body, providing a slimmer, more sculpted appearance. While its primary purpose is to eliminate stubborn fat deposits, liposuction can also play a role in improving the appearance of cellulite.

Improve the Appearance of Cellulite

Many individuals seek liposuction not only to contour their bodies but also to address skin irregularities like cellulite. Although liposuction is not specifically designed to eliminate cellulite, it can significantly reduce the underlying fat that exacerbates its appearance. By removing fat and smoothing out the treated areas, liposuction may help in reducing the appearance of cellulite, giving your skin a more even and youthful look.

Effective Cellulite Treatments

For those looking to specifically target and eliminate cellulite, combining liposuction with other cellulite treatments can be highly effective. Options such as laser therapy, radiofrequency, and ultrasound can complement liposuction by targeting the fibrous bands beneath the skin that cause cellulite. These combined treatments work synergistically to provide a comprehensive solution for smoother, firmer skin.

Comprehensive Fat Removal

Liposuction removes fat from various parts of the body, including the abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks, arms, back, chest, cheeks, chin, and neck. This procedure is particularly beneficial for those areas where fat is resistant to diet and exercise, providing a more defined and contoured body shape.

Benefits of Liposuction

  • Targeted Fat Removal: Focuses on specific areas to improve body contour.
  • Enhanced Appearance: Helps in reducing the appearance of cellulite by removing excess fat.
  • Versatile Treatment: Can be combined with other cellulite treatments for optimal results.
  • Boosted Confidence: Achieve a slimmer, more toned look that enhances self-esteem.

Understanding the Procedure

Liposuction involves small incisions through which a thin tube, called a cannula, is inserted. The cannula is used to loosen fat cells, which are then suctioned out, resulting in a smoother, more contoured appearance. Recovery times vary, but most patients return to normal activities within a few days, with full recovery taking a few weeks.

Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of your body by removing excess fat deposits. This can improve your body contours and proportion. It can be used in any area on your face or body that does not respond to diet or exercise.

What parts of the body can be treated with liposuction?

Virtually any parts of your face or body that have excess fat deposits can be treated, including:

  • Cheeks, chin and neck
  • Hips and buttocks
  • Upper arms and thighs
  • Breast or chest area
  • Inner knees, calves and ankles
  • Back
  • Abdomen and waist

Liposuction can be performed alone. But, in many cases, it is used with other plastic surgery procedures, such as face lifts , breast reductions, and tummy tucks.

It is important to understand that liposuction is not a treatment for obesity. Proper nutrition and exercise are key to maintaining the benefits of liposuction.

Will liposuction get rid of my cellulite?

No, it is not an effective treatment forcellulite, the dimpled skin that typically appears on the thighs, hips and buttocks. It is an ideal procedure for permanently reshaping your body contours where excess fat deposits create areas that are disproportionately large in an otherwise balanced figure.

Is liposuction safe?

As with any surgery, there are risks. There are steps you can take to help assure your safety:

  • Choose a plastic surgeon certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery

  • A facility can be office-based or at an ambulatory center
  • Follow your pre-op and post-op instructions

Dr. Guarda will discuss the risks and answer any questions you have. All liposuction techniques require incisions in or near the area to be suctioned – in some cases the incisions are so small that no stitches are needed. A cannula is used to loosen excess fat. The fat is then removed using a surgical vacuum or syringe for small, very isolated areas. When fat grafting is performed the fat is used to fill in wrinkles or hollow areas of the face or depressions in the face or body. Dr. Guarda will carefully explain your liposuction procedure.

How much does liposuction cost?

The cost varies based on your unique needs. After your initial consultation, the staff at Plastic Surgery Specialist of Virginia will discuss the fees associated with your individual procedure and share financing options available to you. What happens after surgery? After your liposuction, a compression garment or elastic bandages may cover treatment areas to help control swelling and compress your skin to your new body contours. Small temporary drains remove excess fluid. You will get instructions for:

  • Caring for the surgical site and special concerns to look for
  • Medications
  • Your follow-up appointment with Dr. Guarda

Experiencing swelling, numbness, soreness, bruising or discomfort is normal.  Medication will help control these symptoms. Resume normal light activity as soon as possible. This can help prevent blood clots and other complications. Initial wound healing may take 5 – 10 days. Healing will continue for several weeks as swelling reduces. It may take several months for swelling to fully go away. As it does, your new contours will continue to develop. As long as you maintain your weight, eat healthfully and get regular exercise, your fabulous new body should reflect the healthy, lean look you want.

FAQ

Will Lipo Get Rid of Cellulite?

Liposuction, commonly referred to as "lipo," is a surgical procedure designed to remove fat deposits from specific areas of the body. However, it is not specifically targeted at reducing cellulite. While lipo can contour the body and reduce fat, it may not significantly impact the appearance of cellulite. Cellulite is caused by the fibrous connective tissue pulling down on the skin, creating a dimpled appearance, which lipo does not address directly.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to remove excess fat deposits from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, arms, and neck. The goal is to improve body contour and proportion.

Can Liposuction Get Rid of Cellulite?

Liposuction can improve body contours by removing excess fat, but it cannot completely get rid of cellulite. Cellulite is a complex condition influenced by factors such as genetics, skin thickness, and the structure of connective tissues. Since liposuction primarily targets fat removal and not the underlying causes of cellulite, it is not considered an effective treatment for cellulite. Patients seeking to reduce the appearance of cellulite should explore other specialized treatments that target the skin and connective tissue.

How Does Liposuction Work?

During liposuction, a plastic surgeon uses a suction technique to remove fat from targeted areas of the body. The procedure typically involves small incisions through which a thin tube, called a cannula, is inserted. The cannula is used to loosen fat cells, which are then suctioned out.

What Are the Risks and Complications Associated with Liposuction?

Like any surgical procedure, liposuction carries risks and potential complications. These can include infection, bleeding, uneven contours, changes in skin sensation, and scarring. It’s important to discuss these risks with a qualified plastic surgeon and ensure that the procedure is performed in a certified medical facility. Choosing an experienced surgeon can help minimize these risks.

Who is a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

Good candidates for liposuction are individuals who are within 30% of their ideal weight, have firm, elastic skin, and good muscle tone. They should also be in good overall health, without medical conditions that could impair healing. It’s important for candidates to have realistic expectations and understand that liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure.

What is the Recovery Process Like After Liposuction?

Recovery from liposuction varies depending on the extent of the procedure and the areas treated. Patients can typically expect some swelling, bruising, and discomfort for a few days to weeks. Compression garments are often recommended to help reduce swelling and support the treated areas as they heal. Most people can return to work and normal activities within a few days, but strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks.

Does Liposuction Get Rid of Cellulite?

Liposuction does not effectively get rid of cellulite. Although it removes fat from beneath the skin, cellulite is related to the structure of connective tissue and the way fat is distributed. While some patients may see a slight improvement in the appearance of cellulite after liposuction, it is not a reliable method for cellulite reduction. Other treatments, such as laser therapy, radiofrequency, and certain topical treatments, are often more effective for addressing cellulite.

What Areas of the Body Can Be Treated with Liposuction?

Liposuction can be performed on various areas of the body, including the abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks, arms, back, chest, cheeks, chin, and neck. It is often used to treat areas where fat deposits are resistant to diet and exercise.

Are the Results of Liposuction Permanent?

The results of liposuction can be long-lasting if the patient maintains a stable weight and healthy lifestyle. While liposuction permanently removes fat cells from the treated areas, it does not prevent new fat cells from developing if significant weight is gained after the procedure.
